How fast does the folding electric wheelchair go?

Our Elite Electric Wheelchair travels at a max speed of 3.75 MPH (6 kilometers per hour). The average walking speed is about 2 mph according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, so you’ll find that our wheelchairs can move pretty quickly! In fact, our Elite Electric Wheelchair can go almost twice as fast as the normal walking pace! Of course, you can lower your speed using our controller so that you can travel as fast or as slow as you would like. Our controller is also touch sensitive – the harder or lighter that you push, the faster or slower your electric wheelchair will go. In testing everyone agrees, our electric wheelchairs are not only useful, but they can be quite fun to drive!

How far can the folding electric wheelchair go? What is the range of the folding electric wheelchair? How long does the battery last on a single charge?

Our Elite Electric Wheelchair can travel up to 12 miles (19.3 kilometers). According to the Mayo Clinic, the average American walks about 1.5 to 2 miles a day. So our electric wheelchair has the range to handle even your busiest days. Even though our electric wheelchair has plenty of range, we still recommend charging your electric wheelchair every night to keep the battery levels at 100%.

How much does the Elite Electric Wheelchair weigh?

The Elite Electric Wheelchair weighs 57 pounds (25.9 kilograms) without batteries. Each battery (one battery comes standard) weighs 5 pounds (2.2 kilograms). Our electric wheelchair is designed to be folded and picked up, whether that means putting it in the trunk of your car or van. However, we recommend asking for help if you have mobility or other limitations that would impede you from lifting 60 pounds.

What is the weight capacity of the electric wheelchair?

Our Elite Electric Wheelchair is rated to support 264 pounds (120 kilograms). If you need a mobility device with a higher weight capacity, please contact us.

What type of batteries does the folding electric wheelchair use?

The Elite Electric Wheelchair uses lithium-ion batteries that are 24V and 10Ah. This battery is sufficient to provide enough energy to power your electric wheelchair for 6 times the distance that the average American walks in a day. Our products must be used with the provided batteries. Under no circumstances may you use your own batteries to power our products. Most likely it will not work, and if it does, you run the risk of damaging the battery, the mobility device, and/or yourself.

Can I bring my folding electric wheelchair on an airplane?

In most cases, yes, you can bring our Elite Electric Wheelchair on a plane. However, it will be subject to the policies of the airline. You must inform the airline when making your reservation that you are travelling with a medical device using an IATA-approved lithium-ion battery. See below for how to add a mobility device with a lithium-ion battery to your airline reservation.

Usually the airlines will permit you to ride your electric wheelchair to the gate, at which point you may disconnect the battery and fold the electric wheelchair into its folding position. At that point, you may “gate check” the folded electric wheelchair, and you will need to bring the battery onto the plane. However, you should always check with the airline in advance to confirm their policies.

Operations

How do I install/setup my folding electric wheelchair?

You can find information for setup and installation here.

How long does it take to fully charge the electric wheelchair?

We recommend charging for 4-6 hours to achieve a full charge. Although you may not use the entire battery every day, we recommend charging every night.

Do you offer any training or support for using an electric wheelchair?

If you are interested in training or support for your electric wheelchair, please refer to our tutorial videos and product manuals. Alternatively, you may reach out to us for support.

Can the electric wheelchair be pushed like a manual wheelchair?

Yes, the electric wheelchair can be pushed like a manual wheelchair. You will see two red levers in the back of the wheelchair, one on each motor. Those levers must each be placed in the lowered position in order to push the wheelchair manually. To use the electric power again, you must raise the red levers to their upper position.

You can think of those red levers as the automatic brakes when in electric mode, preventing the wheelchair from rolling when you are not depressing the joystick.

If you run out of power, or if you wish to conserve power, you can always turn off your electric wheelchair, lower the red levers to manual mode, and have someone push the wheelchair.

When you are sitting or standing from the electric wheelchair, you should always make sure that the red levers are in their raised position. This will prevent the wheelchair from sliding back when you try to sit or stand.

Why can I not push my electric wheelchair?

Most likely, you cannot push your electric wheelchair because the automatic brakes are engaged. There are two red levers in the back of the wheelchair, one on each motor.

When you are sitting or standing from the electric wheelchair, you should always make sure that the red levers are in their raised position. This will prevent the wheelchair from sliding back when you try to sit or stand.

Can the armrests be raised on the electric wheelchair?

Yes, the armrests can be raised on the electric wheelchair. This is optimate for sitting at a table or a desk.

Can the folding electric wheelchair fit in the trunk of my car?

Yes! The Elite Electric Wheelchair is designed to be folded so that it can fit in the trunk of your car. Please be aware, that with a battery the folded electric wheelchair weighs approximately 60 pounds, so you may need some assistance putting it in or taking it out of your car.

Can the electric wheelchair be used indoors and outdoors?

Yes. Our mobility products are designed to be used indoors and outdoors. However, you should not use any electric mobility product in the rain or in the snow. If rain is a concern, then we recommend purchasing a rain cover. While a rain cover may help in an emergency, you should never intentionally drive your mobility products in the rain, snow, or under any other wet conditions. Do not drive your mobility products on wet or slick surfaces.

Are your mobility products waterproof?

NO, OUR MOBILITY PRODUCTS INCLUDING OUR ELITE ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR ARE NOT WATERPROOF. Do not drive your mobility products in the rain or snow. Do not allow your mobility products to sit in the rain or snow. Do not drive through puddles. Never let any of the electrical components get wet.

Can the electric wheelchair be driven on grass? Can it be driven uphill/downhill?

Yes, the electric wheelchair can be driven on grass. However, for the best performance we recommend driving your mobility products on hard surfaces. You will not have good traction if you try to drive your mobility product on sand, dirt, gravel, or slick surfaces, and you run the risk of damaging the components.

It can also be driven up or down light hills. But if the hill is steep, then we don’t recommend using our mobility products. You should not drive any of our mobility products on a grade steeper than 12 degrees. A good rule of thumb is, if you wouldn’t feel comfortable using a manual wheelchair on a hill, then you shouldn’t use an electric wheelchair on that hill. You should never drive your mobility products on any hill with a slick or wet surface, as you run the risk of slipping.

All of our mobility products come with a 30-Day Return and Refund policy. More information on that program can be found on our Refund Policies page.

How do I properly maintain and care for my electric wheelchair?

Proper maintenance is important and easy for our products.

Cleaning

To clean the joystick and the other “hard” components of the wheelchair (such as the metal frame or hard plastics), use a soft cloth to gently wipe the control system and the joystick. Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaners.

To clean the soft parts of the wheelchair (such as the cushions), use a damp cloth to clean.

To clean the seat cushion, unzip the cushion and remove the foam insert. The seat cushion case may then be hand washed with a mild detergent and hung to air dry. Make sure that the cushion cover and foam insert are dry before replacing on the wheelchair.

Maintenance

Before every use, your product should be inspected for any signs of damage or defect. If you notice any damage or defect, you should not use your product and contact us.

To maintain your controller/joystick, make sure that it is kept away from damp air as this could cause damage.

Regularly inspect the battery cables to make sure that they are not corroded.

To maximize the efficiency of your wheelchair battery, you should:

  1. Fully charge your battery before initial use.
  2. Use your wheelchair slowly, on a low speed setting, and for no more than 90 minutes.
  3. Allow your battery to charge for 4-6 hours, and then repeat Step 2.
  4. After 4-5 cycles of Step 2/Step 3, the battery is primed to reach 100% capacity.

To properly maintain the battery, perform the following actions:

  1. The battery should be charged often and be allowed to fully charge. We recommend charging the battery every night.
  2. If your electric wheelchair goes a long period of time without being used, you much charge the battery once a month to maintain battery life.
  3. Do not store your battery in direct sunlight or expose your battery to temperatures higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

To dispose of your battery, you should follow your local regulations for disposal of lithium-ion batteries.

To maintain your seat cushion, the primary operational concern is moisture. Your mobility product should not be exposed to rain or snow. However, if your seat cushion does get wet, then it can trap moisture which could drip onto the battery and wiring. If your seat cushion gets wet, then you should remove your seat cushion, separate the cushion insert from the cushion cover, and place both items into the dryer on LIGHT tumble dry, checking every 10 minutes for dryness. Do not leave your seat cushion in the dryer longer than necessary to reach moderate dryness.

Do you offer spare parts, replacement parts, and accessories?

Yes, whether you're looking for a spare battery or replacement parts such as cushions, motors, fenders, chargers, controllers, or something else, in most cases we can fulfill your request and ship out the next day. For more information on requesting accessories or replacement parts, see our Accessories page.
